On October 23 and 24 Ambassador of Romania Ștefan Tinca has visited the programs financed by the Romanian Government in the earthquake region in Türkiye. Together with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Türkiye, Ambassador Tinca has participated in the launch of two initiatives aimed at promoting recovery in Hatay.
Firstly, he has attended a groundbreaking ceremony for a footwear industry production unit located in the Hatay Expo area. Once completed, the facility will provide production space and modern machinery to improve quality and efficiency, and will also allow local shoemakers, that are currently displaced in Reyhanli, to bring their industry back to Hatay.
Ambassador Tinca also attended a ceremony in İskenderun, that marked the launch of the restoration of St. George’s Orthodox Church, a 450-year-old heritage landmark. The church suffered severe structural damage to its walls, columns and roof during the disaster. Thanks to the Romanian support, the reconstruction effort will commence, as part of a larger UNDP, donor and Turkish Government campaign dedicated to cultural heritage restoration.
In Adıyaman, together with the Turkish Office of United Nations Population Fund, Ambassador Tinca has also visited static and mobile health units that are providing care services to women and girls displaced by earthquakes, run by SGDD-ASAM and established in K6 Container city of Adiyaman. On the ground, Ambassador Tinca could observe the ongoing work carried out by the local health service providers. He also had the chance to meet with beneficiaries of the Romanian-financed project and discuss their needs and challenges.
